Apostille Services
Apostille Services for Malaysia-Based Clients
Apostilles on documents issued in Hague Convention countries, obtained through our international network — and clear advice when Malaysia needs a different route.
An apostille is a certificate issued under the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. When both the issuing country and the receiving country are parties to the Convention, one apostille from the issuing country is all that is needed — no embassy legalisation.
Malaysia is not yet a Contracting Party (the official HCCH status table should always be checked for the latest position). In practice this means: Malaysian documents cannot receive an apostille and go through Wisma Putra and embassy legalisation instead, and foreign documents for use in Malaysia are normally legalised by the Malaysian embassy rather than apostilled. Where an apostille is the right answer — for example a UK degree going to Singapore, or a US birth certificate going to Europe — ABC Translation obtains it in the issuing country through our international offices.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get an apostille for a Malaysian document?
Not at present, because Malaysia is not a party to the Apostille Convention. Malaysian documents are authenticated by Wisma Putra and then legalised by the destination country's embassy. We handle that route for you.
Is an apostille accepted in Malaysia?
Malaysian authorities generally expect foreign documents to be legalised by the Malaysian embassy or consulate in the issuing country. Some receiving bodies have their own rules, so we confirm requirements before you spend money.
Which ASEAN countries issue apostilles?
According to the HCCH status table, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore are parties, Viet Nam's accession took effect in September 2026, and Thailand's is due to take effect in February 2027. We always re-check the official table before advising you.
